Donald is a MetLife Financial Planner whose primary focus is consulting with and implementing strategies for individuals and families in the areas of wealth, education, insurance and retirement planning. He also provides strategies to business owners and corporate executives in the areas of business insurance, executive corporate services and corporate retirement plans. Donald works in partnership with his wife, Sharon, a MetLife Financial Planner who joined his practice in 2009.
Donald Feels the cornerstone of the wealth planning industry is the development of strong interpersonal relationships and the financial professional’s ability to understand fully the needs, values and concerns of their clients; Donald is intuitively gifted with these qualities. Furthermore, his disciplined and structured law enforcement background allows him to deliver a true “protect and serve mentality” to his team and valued clients.
Donald is a retired, highly-decorated Narcotics Detective from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. He was medically retired in 1996, resulting from on-duty cervical spine injuries. During his fourteen year career, Donald worked patrol at the Lennox (South Central Los Angeles), West Hollywood and Lancaster substations. He also served as a Field Training Officer, Gang Investigator, Headquarters Narcotics Detective and was assigned as a member of the Sheriff's Marijuana Enforcement Team and Tactical Response Force. As a Narcotics Detective, Donald worked and trained with elite military teams and Federal law enforcement agencies.
Donald received dozens of commendations from the Sheriff’s Department for his investigative skills as well as awards, certificates and commendations from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California State Treasurer. He holds an Advanced Certificate from the California Peace Officer’s Standards and Training. He is also a recipient of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s highest honor, the Medal of Valor. Donald received this award for his heroic actions in the rescue of his partner who had become trapped during a narcotics search warrant and ensuing gun battle with two armed suspects.
Upon retirement from the Sheriff’s Department, Donald began his civilian career at a publishing company in Southern California where he ultimately was promoted to Vice President of Operations. His career in the financial services industry began as a Merrill Lynch Financial Advisor (2000-2004). During his tenure at Merrill Lynch, Donald attained the advanced designation of Certified Financial Manager and the distinction of Mortgage Champion for liability management. He further was inducted into the Merrill Lynch Executive’s Club for his successful business growth and was recognized for his prowess in delivering Business Financial Services.
In the Fall of 2005, while employed as a Financial Advisor at Smith Barney (2004-2007), Donald culminated a rigorous period of study and comprehensive examinations in achieving two advanced certifications. In October, Donald completed Smith Barney’s advanced financial planning program and was awarded the Financial Planning Specialist designation. In November, Donald completed a 12-month program through the College for Financial Planning and was awarded the Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC) designation. In May 2009, as a MetLife Financial Advisor, Donald completed MetLife's advanced financial planning and the industry leading NaviPlan financial planning software training programs and was named a MetLife Financial Planner.
Donald has a BA in Business Administration with concentrations in finance and management from California State University, San Bernardino. He graduated with honors and was inducted into The Honor Society for Collegiate Schools of Business, Beta Gamma Sigma and the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, recognizing those students graduating in the top 10% of their class. He has been active in his community, having served as a member on the Board of Directors for a non-profit organization.
Donald and Sharon, have four adult children and have lived in the Phoenix area since February 2008. Donald maintains a high level of physical fitness through a weekly regimen of weight and cardiovascular workouts. He also enjoys reading, hiking, firearms and playing golf.
